GYGIG is raising awareness and funds for the research, education, and advocacy work of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) and the local chapter, right here in the Capital Region. I am riding because I will do anything to help my sister. BrownEyedGirl was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease searchable more than 13 years ago. In that searchable time, I have seen her searchable suffer its affects in many ways. Shari was once hospitalized and, at 98 pounds, struggled to hold herself up by her own legs. Today, thanks to the support of CCFA and new treatments, she is in remission, feeling healthy and enjoying the wonders of motherhood with my 2 year-old nephew – something we thought she might never achieve. Even now, though, there is always a fear of her symptoms returning. I’ve dedicated the next five months to training, fundraising and preparing for the “ride of my life” to help support those battling inflammatory bowel disease and help those who are unable to undertake a Ride like this one. |
