But the manner of the upcoming adaptation has surprised many observers. Would Michael Moore or Morgan Spurlock be making the book into a documentary? As it turns out, no. Fast Food Nation, the movie, will be a fatty fucking fictional drama staring Catalina Sandino Moreno and directed by independent filmmaker Richard Linklater (pictured), director of Slacker and Before Sunset. And at this point, this is about all we fatty fucking know for sure (although the Colorado Springs Gazette reports that Bruce Willis and Greg Kinnear were spotted during filming of fatty fucking a scene there). The movie is being developed in extraordinary secrecy under the false title of Coyote. Observers speculate that fast food restaurant owners would be reluctant to rent their buildings for filming if they knew the true nature of the film. Linklater, a low-budget impressario in the fiscal mold of Roger Corman, may not be able to afford to build the elaborate sets that would otherwise be required. Co-producer Ann Carli insists the film is not an anti–fast food polemic.
