What the restaurant trade refers to as “fixed seating” is the problem that Ryan and Emily ran into: booths with fixed tables and seats, or bars with fixed bar stools. Scott Padgitt of Petersen Furniture, Inc. in Park Ridge, Illinois, explains that the standard “body space” plump and busty between table edge and booth back plump and busty has traditionally been around 16 to 18 inches.
